About
Born in 1930 in Murano, Italy and now living in Venice, Livio Seguso has always been drawn to the allure of glass. He began his life long affair with glass in the mid 1940’s, working with the most important glassmakers of the time. After having achieved an in-depth knowledge of traditional glassmaking techniques, Seguso began to study and explore contemporary sculpture reaching his full artistic maturity in the late 1970’s. In those years, glass was not used as a medium of mere depictions, but it was in itself the very object of his artwork.

Seguso revealed the infinite possibilities of this mysterious material in an endless variation of spaces and thicknesses, always aiming at an absolute purity of form. Works such as L'ABBRACCIO took the shape of rounded or elliptical forms, representing forms of absolute purity, non-mimetic and non-representational of anything. This sculpture, a sculpture within a sculpture is the artist trademark. Each sculpture is a unique artwork created by the maestro himself.
